Monterinaldi is situated in an area that has been inhabited since prehistorical times and that made part of old Etruscan territories, The name of the estate, however, derives from an ancient castle, built around the year 1000 and subsequently demolished during the wars between Siena and Florence. Its construction is linked to a Count Gottifredo or Gottizio, of Longobard descent, who was the lord of Monterinaldi. His family then dominated the whole area that nowadays forms the town council of Radda in Chianti. The castle was the seat and residence of important families who reigned over the area during the medieval period of the wars between Siena and Florence, and between the Guelf and Ghibelline families, in the course of which the fortification has been demolished. The noble Geppi family of Florence acquired the place in 1686. Further destruction took place during the Second World War. Only a small part of the castle survives, along with a church and some houses in the hamlet of the same period, some of them owned by Agricola Monterinaldi.

Most part of the estate vineyards are still to be found around the "borgo" of Monterinaldi, whereas production and administration is now situated down the hill and easily accessible at the Fattoria La Pesanella. Villa Pesanella itself was built in 18th-century whereas the other buildings are of more recent date.

Wine production is reported since 1910, but modern techniques, both in the vineyards and in the cellars, started only in the early Sixties, when the florentine Remo Ciampi took over the estate.

Agricola Monterinaldi now ranks among the leading wineries in the Chianti Classico - both for size and quality.

Total extension actually amounts to more than 290 ha (about 715 acres),
composed by vineyards, olive groves, walnut groves, wood and pasture.

Beyond Villa Pesanella, some other farm-houses are to be found allover the estate. The most recent expansion took place in the springtime of 1998.
